The diploma thesis deals with the proposal of new interventions within the area above the underground reservoirs in the area of the Žlutý kopec. Various urban structures, atmospheres and influences of surrounding, natural or urbanistic are encountered in the area. The place is unique for its location near the historic center of Brno, the potential of the green public priesthood within a built-up part of the city with a view of the city's landmark, Spilberk Castle. The aim of the work is to offer a dessign that responds to these impacts and links them in a design that complements existing underground reservoirs. It invites the inhabitants of the city, new visitors or tourists to regenerate body and soul, in the gallery or athletic center in the environment of reservoirs. The programme of the place offers both, the social space through a new cultural and visitor center but also soothing space in the form of a park.

This work deals with the elaboration of architectural and urban design of an area surrounding the historic water reservoirs in Brno – Tvrdého Street. The first part contains the urban design on the entire area, after that one specific building is processed in more detail in the form of an architectural study. The new use of the underground reservoirs is also a part of this project. The work is partly a continuation of older atelier work which was focused on an thorough analysis of the are and the possibilities of its development.

Master’s thesis focuses on area of historic water reservoirs on Yellow Hill, situated between streets of Tomešova and Tvrdého. They continued to supply Brno with non-potable water until 1997 and TIC is currently looking for a new way to make water reservoirs accesable and more interesting to the general public. Due to the existence of underground reservoirs the site has remained undeveloped and is covered with dense greenery. Thanks to that, the character of the place is in the context of the surrounding build-up area very unique. The proposal not only respects that, but seeks to support it. The whole area is undergoing through new landscape design and is completed by three single-storey pavilions, which with their various functions ensure the operation of the site. The historic buildings that were used to manage the underground reservoirs are renovated and integrated into the operation of the site. An important part of the design is also the solution of barrier-free access to reservoirs, their interconnection and installation of optical device - the Camery Obscury in the oldest of the reservoirs. The whole place becomes more accesible and attractive for visitors.

The planning area is situated on the border of historical city of Brno and the district of Stránice in the close vicinity of the important transport hub Vaňkovo square. It spreads between two main streets - Tomešová and Tvrého. The main dominant of this location is a built-up area of The Hospital. The uniqueness of this place is also related to the city’s historical centre, the view of the Špilberk Castle and at the same time the historical uniqueness hidden underground of the plot. Therefore, the aim of the work is to increase the attractiveness of the area and pleasant environment for inhabitants of the city regarding to the surrounding buildings. Also to open up magnificant spaces of historical water reservoirs to the public and thus increase the social level and attendance of this locality.

This work is dealing with accessibility of area that is on the border of three subsystems that are blocked off by each other by topography. Unfulfilled potential caused by barrier disabling connection to the city structure. Relief of a city influencing reachability of its parts that causes its decline. Overcoming such a barrier could cause activation of the area without big intervention to the urbanity or function of given area.

The thesis deals with the design of the public interior in the grounds of historical water tanks under the Žlutý kopec in Brno. In the first part, the thesis deals with the reasons for the creation of water tanks and their history, as well as the importance of water as a source of inspiration. The design of the architectural form of the new building serving as a tourist background connecting all the water tanks in the area is presented, as well as the appearance of the interior and furniture elements. In the work, the designs of atypical furniture elements in the form of an information desk, a cabinet assembly and upholstered benches are further elaborated.
